The truth about CSI

"CSI" is one of the most popular shows on television. Millions of viewers every week tune in every week to see Las Vegas criminalists use forensic science to solve crimes, especially murders. How much like real life is the television show? Almost from the first show district attorneys and police have criticized it for not accurately displaying how crimes are solved and for its excessive violence The fact is many experts have said there are many aspects of "CSI" that are not like how real criminalists solve crime. By comparison, experts have said the television show, "NCIS" about military and ex-military officials is dramatized and does have fictionalized accounts and the people in the show may not always have a professional attitude toward each other. On the other hand, in that show, real life NCIS agents work with the actors to make the characters seem like real agents, and NCIS does give information about real life cases to the makers of the show. Some experts may have more criticisms of CSI than they do of NCIS, even though many do believe both shows to be good entertainment.

Architecture wonderlands :Luxuries of Dubai

Dubai is an amazing place- with amazing architectures layering around the city, located in United, Arab  Emirates. It is in fact very stunning, with all the architectures you would dream for, like the tallest tower in the world, or even a hotel that is underwater.  However, Dubai wasn't all this from the start.

Dubai in 1990 prior to the craziness
This is a street in Dubai in the early ages. Not a thing you would expect from a country like Dubai! However, it changes across time...

The same street in 2003
The same street in 2003.

The madness
With all the 15 % to 25% value of the world's crates, and all that building, Dubai makes it up to
Dubai Last year
all this, last year. And yeah, it's the same street you see above.
So let's look at some stunning features in Dubai . As watching through the post, you will notice it would sure be something you had never seen before.
The Dubai Waterfront.
This is a Dubai waterfront. When it's completed, it would be the largest waterfront development - in the world. *(Waterfront : A land on the edge of the body of a water. )
Dubai has made fast developments, as you can see in the picture below. All of that was built in 5 years : can you believe that ? All in just 5 years! (including the palm tree looking like islands)
island that looks like a palm tree
The Palm Islands in Dubai
This is the palm trees islands in Dubai : its  artificial islands, obviously. The New Dutch technology, was used to make these enormous man made islands. These can even  be shown in Space , and they are the largest artificial islands. Upon completion, the resort will have 2,000 villas, 40 luxury hotels, shopping centers, movie theaters, and many other facilities. It is expected to support a population of approximately 500,000 people. It is advertised as being visible from the moon.

So you might think : what's next ? Well, there's more, and this one's a mini - size of the world!

The World Islands
The world islands : 300 artificial islands in the size and shape of the world! Fascinating, isn't it ? Each islands is told to be worth of  estimated cost of 25- 30 million dollars. Dubai also has some ammmmazing hotels :
The Burj al-Arab hotel in Dubai

The Burj al-Arab hotel in Dubai:it's a only 7 stared hotel and the tallest one , and the most luxurious hotel in the world! This also stands on  Considered the only ’7 star’ hotel and the most luxurious hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island in the sea.)

HydropolisIt's not only the on ground hotels you have it Dubai.. Hydropolis is the world's first underground hotel.  Entirely was built in Germany, and it was assembled in Dubai. It is scheduled to finish in 2009, with many delays.. Imagine all the amazing views you might be able to see under waters!

downtown DubaiThe Burj Dubai
The Burj Dubai, is the tallest tower, finished in 2008, with over estimated 800 meters of height ! More than 140 stories built, it is the tallest tower, yes, as I said before, and the tallest man made structure !
Not only that, there is also another tower to steal the burj's tallest tower name, also in Dubai.
This would be the centerpiece of the Dubai water front.  This was announced to be built in the height of 1200 meters. (picture below )

The Al Burj

The Trump International Hotel & Tower
One of the hotels in the palm islands,Trump International Hotel & Tower is the centerpiece of one of the palm islands, The Palm Jumeirah .

Dubailand
If the Dubai is all this, without this, it would be incomplete - the Dubai land, is the twice the size of disney land, and is the largest amusement park in the world! Now how's that ?
Dubai Sports City
There is also this Dubai Sports city, a HUGE sport arenas in Dubai land.
Not only that, Dubai is also building a space - port, for space traveling. This would be the first spaceport in the world.

Tallest buildings in the world layering Dubai.
dubai indor ski
Ski dubai : already opened, largest indoor ski facility in the world.

The dubai mall : the largest shopping mall in the world.

So How was Dubai ? Isn't it something that makes you just say 'ahhh' and 'oohs' ? A city you would die for? Haha,  Here's some other astonishing facts:
The Dubai Metro system, once completed, will become the largest fully automated rail system in the world. Many people living in Dubailand could probably use the metro system and donate a car they no longer will need at that point keeping the environment much healthier there as well.
* The Dubai World Central International Airport will become the largest airport in size when it is completed. It will also eventually become the busiest airport in the world, based on passenger volume.
* There are more construction workers in Dubai than there are actual citizens.

Bye for now ! mmmwha!

Wash your hands and to get a toy : a friendly way to step up to children to wash their hands

Here's a simple and a smart way of washing hands for health - A hand washing promotion from a NPO (Non Profit Organization ) called Blikkiesdorp4Hope !

This was a promotion for children who was venerable from diseases by a way called Nudge Marketing. As from the name, Nudge marketing is a soft way for people to choose to the product, by 'nudging' people to buy them, not forcing them. The promotion which was introduced from this community was to put some toys inside the soap , and giving to them, for free. This soap was called ' Hope Soap.'

The soap doesn't have any warnings about the disease. It just a soap, which you naturally would get a toy, when you are done with washing your hands with this soap.
kids can get toys naturally, and wash their hands also. It's a good deal - kids can get good health, and also a toy they wanted.

These nudge marketing seems good and a smart way to make people from poor surroundings to keep their health. I hope kids will be able to keep their health, and learn the importance to wash their hands :)

A mathematician shown in art : Fibonacci and his theory shown in art

This photos are all piecies in art

Today right now JUST NIKKI gained 200 views! Thank you for the views people ! :)
I will post more thank you for loving JUST NIKKI <3

A Math Essay : WHO WAS FIBONACCI AND WHAT HAS MADE FIBONACCI ?

WHO WAS FIBONACCI AND WHAT HAS MADE FIBONACCI..?
  • It was in Pisa, Italy, when Fibonacci started his mathematic innovations. Fibonacci was a mathematician, who was born in Pisa, obviously, who discovered many different theories, like the golden ratio, and the Fibonacci sequence in math. He is now called among people, ‘the greatest mathematician that existed in the middle ages. ‘
  •  So who was Fibonacci, ‘the greatest mathematician that existed in the middle ages ‘? Fibonacci was a man who was living in Pisa- as I said before, who was born in 1180. Leonardo Pisano – his real name, and throughout his life, he had travelled over the meditarrian sea, gaining mathematic knowledge. He introduced Arabic numbers, to Europe , gaining a foothold to the basic mathematics. His theories are also shown in Liber abaci, a book, published by himself. His books on how to divide, add, multiply, and subtract. It was completed in 1202 and persuaded many European mathematicians of his day to use this "new" system.
  • So what were his theories? Fibonacci sequence was one of his theories, one of the famous works that he has done. Obviously, this sequence was named after Fibonacci that was introduced in the book Liber abaci. This Fibonacci sequence was basically numbers added one after another, starting at 1. For instance, it starts with 1, and 1, and then the next number would be 2, with 1 and 1 – the two numbers at the front, added to make the next number.  And here’s a surprise. If you take any two successive Fibonacci numbers, their ratio is very close to the golden ratio . The basic of beauty, the golden ratio was also one of his works. The golden ratio is the special number equal to 1.618 – which makes a balanced and a ‘pretty’ image of the viewing point. The golden ratio is used in many pieces in many genres – for example, in art – Mona Lisa for example, and in architecture if designing buildings stunning and balanced. Fibonacci also introduced the numbers that we use now – starting with Europe.
  • So what were the elements that made Fibonacci  a great mathematician, the foothold of the basic mathematics ? First it moves on to his home, Pisa, Italy. Pisa , was relate to many of Mediterranean ports, during that time. So naturally he was able grow up with a North African education under the Moors , with many merchants working in ports . The merchants taught him their systems of doing arithmetic, making him realise the many advantages of ‘ Hindu – Arabic’ System . He later travelled extensively around the Mediterranean coasts, giving him the basics of what he had developed. His book Liber Abaci was also from the nine Indian figures, and their arithmetic , which was used around the Mediterranean countries, and his book was just a ‘translation’  to make their use more commonly understood in his native Italy. In the matter of fact, I think Fibonacci was more of a importer that brought innovations to mathematics than a ‘mathematician’.
  • Fibonacci was a great mathematician who lived in Pisa, Italy, who brought innovations to Europe, and later on to the whole world. His theories are still used until today, being the basic to every mathematics we hold today , and until the future we will face.

All about Papier mache - all in just one easy page !

In today's post, I decided to post about Papier Mache, which is a fun and professional yet eco friendly way to sculpt . Since I learnt about it, and since it's end of the term now, maybe it's a good way to summerize :)
I would post in two posts- one including how to actually Papier Mache, and one to actually develop this and make an animal mask out of it.
WARNING : THIS PAGE IS BASICALLY HOW TO MAKE  A SCULPTURE OUT OF PAPIER MACHE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE HOW TO MAKE A MASK OUT OF PAPIER MACHE, SEE THE OTHER POST.

sculptures I found interesting

So what is papier mache ? A Papier Mache is a malleable mixture of paper and glue, or paper, flour, and water, that becomes hard when dry, and by using this method, you can create, sculpt , and make all kind of things.

********
WHAT WILL YOU NEED ?
You would first need glue, and some water, and some brush - here let me just give you a list.
LIST OF THINGS YOU WOULD BE NEEDING
  • GLUE : Now, not just some glue stick whatever, (ddakpul- we like to call it in Korea ) you would have to make one of pastes for papier maches, like one of those orange bowls you see at the top ?Now here are some options you can make some paste of Papier mache:
OPTION 1:  3/4 white glue to 1/4 water (or if using a good, thick glue, like elmers you can do 1/2 and 1/2)
OPTION 2:  COOK METHOD:  1 part flour to 5 parts water... boil about 3 minutes and let cool  (my          favorite!  it's the cheapest method and is nice and smooth
OPTION 3:  1 part flour to 1 part water.  Stir together.
If you success, you will find with a bowl of gloopy liquid colour of milk.
  • THICK PAPER OR NEWSPAPER : So papier mache is basically making a sculpture out of paper, so you would need a bunch of newspapers, that you don't use would be great. Just any source of paper would be great.
  • A BRUSH : the brush should be strong and thick, with all the glue over it.
  • CELLO TAPE : I actually found these cello tapes excellent for sculpting, and getting shape for my sculpture.
********
HOW WILL YOU DO IT ?
  1. So this is how I did it :
  2. First , tear up the paper and newspaper into pieces. It does not have to be neat, just tear it up, hun!
  3. Now make the model of the sculpture : I found this as the hardest, you will have to chunck off your creativity, and make the model of your sculpture. For example if you are making a um- pinata, you could make a ball of newspaper by wrinkling all up(:body ) and make a smaller version of that ( :head) and connect them with cellotape.
  4. now its show time ! use the BRUSH and the PASTE you made earlier. First slowly brush the paste on the model you made with the brush , making it glimmering. Then apply those newspapers on to this model on the paste. Now layer the paste again on top of this newspaper you pasted, with your brush- leaving it with paste. You may do it more if you like, but no more than 4 layers.
  5. Do it all over the model, with a thin mold of paste and newspaper. It might look chaotic at the meantime, but it would work out soon enough.
  6. Now leave the sculpture out in the sun, somewhere dry.
  7. Let it dry completely . : Now you will find your sculpture solid, not as chaotic as much *laugh* at 6.
  8. Now you are done ! :)
********
OTHER (TIPS / SKILLS )
Now you are finished!! Was it easy ? I hope it was. *giggle *
now I 'm going to show you some tips and skills I found in the internet : Hope you find it useful.
  • Q: I hate the paste smell - can I let it go away ? If so, how ?
  • A: A little cinnamon to the recipe and it would take away the smell.
  • Tips of a online user 'TRISH' to a dolphin papier mache
"I briefly looked at your dolphin paper mache...  Have you ever tried using an old 2 litre soda bottle instead as your base? I use these a lot for paper mache.  They are a good size and easy to cut and tape to alter to suit your needs. I taught Art to 4-7 graders and we made Elephants, Hippo's and Parrots out of the paper mache using the soda bottle method.  I made a wonderful dolphin using a mineral water bottle that had a beautiful triangular shape.  Wish I had a picture!!

Try this easy paper mache paste recipe:
     - Take 1 heaped soup ladle of powdered cornstarch
     - Place in a heat proof bowl
     - Add enough COLD water to form a paste and to dissolve powder to consistency of thick cream.
     - Pour in one kettleful (1.7 litres) of RAPIDLY BOILING (MUST be bubbling away...) and stir like crazy...!

It is very very HOT like porridge and it can form lumps so I usually give it a whisk or beating with my electric mixer to smooth it.
Paste should change from opaque white to translucent once the boiling water is added.
It will keep a few days and can be microwaved to be heated so it's less "jelly-like".  Kids love to use it while it's warm, but it works equally well cold.

  • Pam says : Rather than make our own paste for paper mache, we use liquid starch that is relatively inexpensive.  I bought a large jug at the supermarket that we have been using for years. Sounds like it gives the same result as the cooked method.  It dries smooth and clear - fantastic for use with gift wrap scraps.  We use it with brown grocery bags when we want to create pottery or leather looking crafts."
Thanks to Pam for sharing this idea!

END OF POST. HOPE YOU GUYS ENJOYED ! :)
